If you’ve been thinking of Universal Orlando as a quick 2- or 3-day stopover on your Florida vacation, I’m here to change your mind — completely.
I’m Rachel, owner of Wonderland and Beyond Travel, and Universal Orlando has been one of my absolute favorite destinations to plan for families, couples, and solo travelers for years. I visit regularly. I’ve walked every inch of these parks and toured the hotels firsthand. In addition, I’ve watched the resort transform into something amazing.
And with the opening of Epic Universe, Universal Orlando isn’t just a park day anymore — it’s a full-on, multi-day destination vacation. Let me show you exactly why 5 to 7 nights is the sweet spot.
Four Theme Parks. Four Completely Different Experiences.
With the introduction of Epic Universe, Universal Orlando now includes four theme parks: Universal Studios Florida, Universal Islands of Adventure, Volcano Bay, and the brand-new Universal Epic Universe. In fact, each one deserves its own dedicated day.
1. Universal Studios Florida The original park is still delivering on its promise to let you “ride the movies.” It features Diagon Alley, Springfield, Minion Land, and the thrills of Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit. Therefore, Universal Studios Florida is absolutely worth a full day.
2. Universal Islands of Adventure This is the park that rewrote the rules of theme park thrills. You can experience Jurassic World, Marvel Super Hero Island, Hogsmeade, and the legendary Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure. While one day is not enough to see it all, it’s a perfect start.
3. Universal Epic Universe
Opened in 2025, Universal Epic Universe transports guests to five incredibly themed worlds — home to over 50 unique experiences including rides, dining, shopping, and more. Those worlds are:
- Super Nintendo World — jump into your favorite video games and collect coins with a Power-Up Band
- The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Ministry of Magic — a brand-new chapter of the wizarding story, set in 1990s Paris
- How to Train Your Dragon: Isle of Berk — soar alongside Toothless in breathtaking flying rides
- Dark Universe — Universal’s classic monsters reimagined with next-generation ride technology
- Celestial Park — the stunning central hub connecting all five worlds
4. Volcano Bay Water Theme Park Universal’s tropical water park is the perfect “rest and recharge” day — especially if you’re visiting during warmer months (which in Florida is basically nine months of the year!).

My Personal Recommended Day-by-Day Breakdown
My go to when I want an onsite vacation, is absolutely a 6-night Universal Orlando stay — and it’s the itinerary I love to build for my clients all the time:
Day 1 — Islands of Adventure | Hagrid’s, VelociCoaster, Hogsmeade. Set the tone right.
Day 2 — Universal Studios Florida | Diagon Alley, Minion Land, and the classics.
Day 3 — Off Day | Sleep in. Enjoy your resort pool. Hit CityWalk for dinner, mini golf, and shopping. ✨ Day 4 — Epic Universe | Give this brand-new park every single second it deserves.
Day 5 — Go-Back Day | Head back to your favorite park. Re-ride your must-dos and see what you missed. Day 6 — Volcano Bay | Float, relax, and close out your trip in the best possible way.
This is a 6-night stay — and honestly? It still feels like there’s more to do. That’s what Universal Orlando has become.
Hotels That Elevate the Experience
Where you stay at Universal Orlando genuinely changes your entire trip. I’ve toured and stayed at multiple properties on property, and here’s my honest take:
Premier Collection Hotels — Close to the Parks + FREE Express Pass
Three of Universal’s Signature Collection hotels — Loews Portofino Bay, Loews Royal Pacific, and Hard Rock Hotel — include a complimentary Express Unlimited Pass. This isn’t just any Express Pass — it’s the highest tier, two-park, unlimited Express that can cost $150 to $380 per person per day. For a family of four, staying at one of these hotels often pays for itself in skip-the-line savings alone.
A quick note: the Express Passes included with these hotel stays do not cover Epic Universe, Volcano Bay, or separately ticketed events like Halloween Horror Nights — but I can help you plan those too! 😊
One of my favorite hotels
Loews Sapphire Falls Resort is genuinely one of my favorite pools on the entire Universal campus — the tropical waterfall, fire pit, and sand beach area?! Absolute perfection for a rest day. It offers a beautiful Caribbean feel and great dining. Even so, you still get Early Park Admission.
Cabana Bay Beach Resort is pure retro Florida fun — think 1950s roadside motel meets modern water park resort. It has direct access and incredible views of Volcano Bay. Therefore, it is the perfect choice for families who love water parks.

Don’t Forget: CityWalk Is Part of the Experience
Universal CityWalk is more than just a walkway to the parks. On your off day (or any evening), it’s a full entertainment destination:
- Amazing dining from Antojitos to Voodoo Doughnut
- Mini golf — perfect for the whole family
- Shopping, live entertainment, and the AMC Universal Cineplex
- Great for winding down after a full park day
