5 Sailings In — And I’m Still Head Over Heels for the Disney Wish

I just got back from a 3-night weekend escape on the Disney Wish, and honestly? I could turn right around and do it again.

This was my fifth time sailing on the Wish — and I mean it when I say I love this ship more with every single sailing. Whether you’re a Disney Cruise Line veteran or someone who’s been curious about it, I want to walk you through what makes this ship so special. Because once you experience it, you just get it.

The Grand Hall: Your First “Oh Wow” Moment

The second you step aboard the Disney Wish, the Grand Hall stops you in your tracks.

Inspired by Cinderella’s castle, it’s stunning — soaring ceilings, shimmering details, and that signature Disney sparkle that instantly signals: you are somewhere different. Your name is announced as you board (yes, really), and just like that, the outside world completely melts away.

It sets the tone for everything that follows, and that feeling never gets old — trust me, I’ve done it five times.

The Staterooms: Thoughtfully Themed and Beautifully Designed

Even the cabins on the Wish feel intentional. The theming is woven throughout in a way that’s elegant rather than overwhelming. This isn’t just a room with a bed — it’s part of the whole experience.

Whether you’re traveling with little ones or making it a couples getaway, the staterooms deliver that Disney difference the moment you walk through the door.

Rotational Dining: Three Restaurants, All Incredible

If you’ve never sailed Disney Cruise Line before, rotational dining is one of the things that makes it truly unique. You rotate through three different themed restaurants across your sailing — and your entire server team rotates with you. By the end of the trip, they know your name, your kids’ names, and exactly how you like your food.

On the Wish, the three restaurants are:

🦸 Worlds of Marvel An immersive Avengers-themed dining experience where you’re part of the story. The special effects and entertainment woven into dinner are genuinely impressive — even for adults who think they know what to expect.

🎬 1923 A sophisticated, warm nod to Walt Disney’s early Hollywood years. The food here is beautiful and the atmosphere is refined without being stuffy. One of my personal favorites.

❄️ Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure Dinner and a full show with Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, and the whole Frozen crew. I’ve seen guests in their 60s walking away from this one absolutely beaming. It’s that good.

Star Wars: Hyperspace Lounge — My Absolute Happy Place

Okay. I have to dedicate a whole section to this because it deserves it.

The Star Wars: Hyperspace Lounge is one of the most immersive spaces I’ve experienced on any ship I’ve ever sailed — and I’ve sailed a lot of ships. The design places you aboard a luxury spacecraft traveling through the galaxy, with “windows” that shift as you journey past iconic Star Wars planets and destinations.

The craft cocktails are creative and themed to match, the atmosphere is moody and cool, and an hour disappears without you even noticing. If you’re a Star Wars fan (or even just appreciate incredible design), this is worth the sailing alone.

Mornings at Cove Café: My Non-Negotiable Ritual

Every single morning of this trip, I made my way to the Cove Café — coffee in hand — and settled into the adult-exclusive area to watch the ocean drift by.

No rush. No agenda. Just the sea, a really good cup of coffee, and total peace.

The adult spaces on the Wish are genuinely well-designed and relaxing. If you’re the kind of traveler who needs a quiet corner to recharge, you’ll find it here.

This time I skipped Castaway Cay- WHAT! I chose to Stay on the Ship!

On this sailing, I made the deliberate choice not to get off at Castaway Cay — and it was one of the best decisions I’ve made on a cruise in recent memory.

When 90% of the guests head ashore, the ship transforms into your own private retreat. I spent hours in the adult pool and quiet deck areas with barely another person around. The sun, the ocean breeze, a good book, a cold drink — it was exactly the kind of rest I needed.

Castaway Cay is absolutely beautiful and I love it — but it was interesting to try this approach, I have to say I enjoyed the day!

Food You Cannot Miss

Marceline Market (the ship’s buffet) is consistently solid — great options, easy, and perfect when you’re mid-adventure and don’t want to slow down.

But on my quiet Castaway Cay day? I wandered over to Mickey & Friends Festival of Foods poolside, and that is where the magic happened. The BBQ from Mickey’s Smokehouse is so good — the kind of food that you’re still thinking about on the drive home. Do not skip it.

Things to Do Onboard: So Much More Than You’d Expect

The Disney Cruise Line Navigator App is your best friend while you’re sailing. I love browsing through the day’s activities and finding things I want to try — and the Wish always has a full lineup.

A few things I love and recommend:

🎨 Learn to Draw with a Disney Animator — A Disney animator walks you through drawing a character step by step. It’s surprisingly fun, completely approachable, and you walk away with actual artwork you made. One of my favorite onboard activities.

🎬 Movies in the Theater — I watched Toy Story 5 on this sailing in the onboard cinema. A new Disney film, at sea. Does it get better?

🏴‍☠️ Pirate’s Rockin’ Parlay Party — An epic nighttime deck party with Captain Redd, exclusive to the Wish and Disney Treasure. Fireworks at sea, costumes, dancing — it’s a full experience.

For families, there’s even more: the AquaMouse water coaster (yes, a water coaster on a ship!), character meet-and-greets throughout the day, the beloved Oceaneer Club kids programming, family pools, game shows, Broadway-caliber shows in the Walt Disney Theatre, and trivia sessions that get surprisingly competitive.

There is truly something for everyone, at every age.

Ready to Set Sail?

The Disney Wish sails 3-night and 4-night Bahamian itineraries year-round, right out of Port Canaveral, Florida. The 3-night sailings visit Nassau and Castaway Cay — perfect for a long weekend escape. The 4-night itineraries add a day at sea or a stop at Disney’s newer private island destination, Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.

Both are incredible options, and I can help you figure out which one is right for your family, your budget, and your travel style.
